Along the Snake River in Canyon County lies the Black Butte Archaeological District. The district contains some of the most elaborate and diverse rock art in the Pacific Northwest. There are thousands of rock art elements on the canyon walls and boulders of the Snake River Basin between Grandview and the historic Guffey Bridge. Most are examples are concentrated in the area of Celebration Park. Some of the art may be as much as 12,500 years old but most is thought to be between 5,000 and 9,000 years old.
